About Us
Professional Web Designers for Holiday Homes

Our Beginning
Before we started thinking about building holiday home websites for others, we built one for ourselves. That was back in 2010 for our modest 1.5 bedroom (neither bedroom felt big enough to justify being a whole one!) holiday home in the Yorkshire Dales.
Money was tight. We wanted our own website to maximise our profits from the business, but we also didn’t want to depend back then on Trip Advisor and Owners Direct and be tied to their platforms.
Website Hosting is not for the uninitiated. Consumers rarely understand what they need, what they are paying for, and when they are being ripped off.
Building our own website
With a close eye on managing costs, at no time did we consider paying money to someone else to build our website for us. Being novices then, our first website looked pretty but went through several iterations as we hit roadblocks from time-to-time getting it to function the way we wanted it to do. Every software tool we used at some point was replaced with another and our skills grew as we learned how to fix issues with code.
Another challenge was choosing a reputable website hosting service – and learning all about the nitty gritty of configuring a website's domain, SSL, email accounts to its hosting package. Host Gator, Host Papa and Go Daddy were all at some time providing our hosting. Each of these services offered attractive (ok – gimmicky!) introduction packages, but we discovered had completely unusable usage limits. In the space of three months Go Daddy twice asked us to upgrade our service from their economy to basic, then basic to business plans. Before we came to our senses and dropped them as a supplier, we were paying five times more than their original advertised introductory pricing.
What We Learned
Many websites are being built with long established, and poorly performing, drag and drop builders Designers have become comfortable using these tools and are creating as a result bloated, tired looking websites that do a basic job that are un-intuitive for customers to administer and unappealing for their clients to visit. Few websites that are produced today appear to have an understanding that:
- Simply placing text and images on pages does not make a website, no matter how pretty the pictures are.
- Tailoring the booking process to make it easy to use and smooth for guests is critical
- Optimising how a website works within the online eco-system amongst search engines and agency listings will drive visitors.
- Recognise poor Hosting Services, damaging SEO practices and identify value from third party services
- Adapting text context throughout the website is essential to make certain pages persuasive, others informative and others present trust.
- A poor website acts simply as a brochure, a capable website may service your website visitors' needs, but a hardworking website will additionally save you time and deliver bookings
Understanding what guests need from your business (not just your website) opens opportunities to make your website work best for you.
What Makes Us Different
- We treat each client's website as a new project not just another clone of something done before.
- You can speak to us not just email us. If you have taken the time to define your requirements we'll be happy to discuss this with you and use this to shape your website.
- How we manage to price our hosting. Feel free to see what hosting a website costs elsewhere and what you get for that money. We'd rather you understand how our hosting is so affordable rather than mistakenly think we've cut corners to provide a cheap price.
