Learn More About SEO

When people search for goods, services and just about anything and everything online, Google aims to present results that offer what it calculates are 1) the most relevant – and 2) offer the best experience to the user. Oh and some paid ads of course!
Googles “calculations” have historically been referred to as its algorythmns. Today, artificial intelligence (AI) features within these calculations. What this means is that where 10 years ago it was very easy to trick Google to rank a website by filling a website with a list of desirable keywords, now Google is much more able to consider each website on its own merits. In fact Google is very likely to penalise a website using these techniques.
Relevance
If your holiday home is in the Cotwolds for example, then, your website needs to be making it very clear that it is a holiday home website appealing to guests looking for a holiday. And don’t just rely on one or two location based keywords like ‘Cotwolds’ for example. Think of all the things holidaymakers find appealing in the Cotswolds – the villages, restaurants, walks, etc. These are keywords that will match what your website is offering to what users are looking for.
Experience
The search engines these days can identify poorly designed websites and (with all other things being equal) will relegate these below higher performing websites.
Examples of poor performing websites are those that load very slowly, which could be due to large images onscreen or using a budget hosting service. Or the website could contain malware, or undesirable search engine optimisation techniques. Such websites may also contain broken links on the page or errors which can occur when a piece of software within the website updates itself and causes a conflict with another piece of software that hasn’t.
Websites that don’t perform well on mobile are also frowned upon. Those small buttons or links you find on a website that may work well on a PC but are near-impossible to hit with a fat finger on a small screen!
Accessability is also very important for users with visual impairment.
